Nomihodai and Mosquito Coils

To round off a roller coaster week, Amy and I headed for a place with nomihodai. Now you might be thinking, what on earth does that mean? Well, for a lot of Brits - this would be a holy grail for drinking.

Nomihodai (usually found at Izakaya's) is all you can drink. You pay a flat fee and drink as much as you like for 1, 2 or even 3 hours.
3 words: It is dangerous.

Here's the venue at which we chose to sit and drink for two hours.

We ordered some food and drank some really nice cocktails which went down a little too easily. After some time, one of the men sat at the table behind us came over to ask where we were from because he could hear Amy's accent but thought she was Australian. It was really funny talking with him via Google Translate and he was so certain that he'd nailed it - he even said to his friend afterwards that it's easier than you think you talk with foreigners (Amy was translating for me!) which was hilarious since he definitely went away thinking we'd only been in Japan 1 day instead of 1 month!

The restaurant had a cute theme, with wooden barrels everywhere and lots of lanterns - it was nice to unwind a bit. Knowing I had to be up early to go to Kyoto, I did the only responsible thing and went to another bar with Amy once our nomihodai had timed out.

We meandered around and found ourselves in a Spanish themed place which despite the theme still had this lucky cat statue on the bar.  The bartender also had a sense of humour:

Whilst we were there, a man at the bar overheard me asking Amy about a box under the bar and he took it upon himself to show us the box and that it contained mosquito coils. Next, he decided that he would demonstrate how to use them for us whilst the bar man silently glared at him. There was nothing we could do but film it.

Not long after the events of the above, the barman confiscated the box and coil and we made a hasty exit whilst the drunk man was preoccupied with the barman. A fitting end to the evening.
