Squid is the chicken of the sea

October has been such a busy month, I've condensed down some of the things I've done into this blog post and I'll be making separate ones about the bigger events and things that I've been up to.

One night after work, I went to explore a shrine nearby and took some beautiful pictures of the orange gates at the shrine. It was quite small so I wasn't there very long but I enjoyed walking through all of the gates.

That night I just wanted to sit in a peaceful place, so on the way home I parked near Nagahama castle as it stands right on the lake shore and I walked on the path by the castle to sit by the lake. It's usually very quiet when I visit the castle or lake next to it but for some reason the day I was looking for quiet, it was actually fairly busy.

Walking to the lakeside I came across what I thought would be a beautiful picture of a couple enjoying the view, framed by the treas and the sunset in the background so I wished I had a better camera but took it with my phone anyways.

Then I sat and listened to the lake lap at the shore and got lost in my thoughts. It was really nice to relax by the waters edge and listen to music for a while.

Also, I had to show you the Omiyagi I got from one of my schools! It is just a biscuit but I love the print on it - I think it's two well known comedians but I haven't a clue who they are!

On the 24th, I went to Baby Face Planets again in my perpetual quest to find that toasted marshmallow and chocolate fondant of dreams at one of them. It won't surprise most of you to know that this was a dessert before dinner trip! 😙😙
My quest has finally ended as I've now found another venue to enjoy my favourite dessert!

After dessert, I met Tawanda and Amy for dinner at another conveyor belt sushi restaurant. This time though, a robot greeted us to the restaurant and told us where to sit which was bizarre for me since I've never seen anything quite like it - here's a short video: Robot

We ate a lot of sushi. It doesn't help that all the dishes are so cheap - you don't realise how much you're eating until you've suddenly got five or six plates in front of you and you still haven't spent that much!

While we were stuffing our faces with all of the sushi we could lay our hands on, Tawanda found a squid dish to try. We were discussing the merits of various seafood and what they were like when Tawanda said 'Squid is the chicken of the sea' which struck a chord with me. Of course, we all fell about laughing but it does make a weird kind of sense!

Besides eating, I've also been spending my evenings folding origami pumpkins to give to the teachers at my work places. As most of you who read this and know me will know - I love any festivities and Halloween is one of the big ones.

Every year I tend to dress in costume and try to make something or give something to my colleagues, friends and family. This year was no exception. I made all of my colleagues these origami pumpkins and filled them with chocolates.

Each of the faces has had to be drawn on individually by me! I left them on their desks and many teachers were surprised and thanked me. I dressed as a witch this year  since I didn't have the budget for a big costume and it got a good reaction from everyone!

On the 26th, I ventured out for dinner having run out of everything in my fridge and not wanting to shop and cook. I went to a Ramen restaurant for the first time since arriving but I didn't order Ramen since I'm not really a big fan of it. Instead, I ordered bar food - gyoza, karaage and edamame. This was a mistake. I would find out the next day that something had not been right for me and I spent the entire day laying in the corridor outside of my bathroom with a blanket and the general air of someone who feels incredibly sorry for themselves! I couldn't go and lie down in bed for fear of throwing up and I couldn't sit next to the toiled as I had the inability to sit so I made do with the hard laminate floor and my trusty blanket and heat pillow my mum had sent me for my birthday. I told Amy and she came round to check on me and brought me some food for when I was feeling better.

Amy, if you're reading this you are an actual angel and life saver! 😇 Luckily, the angel food revived me and I was still able to visit Hino for the festival the next day...

  1. I hope you have recovered! Sounds as if bar food is just as bad no matter where you are!
